Lockdown has ended - now what?

Had you been isolating with a partner with whom things weren’t exactly going smoothly, lockdown might have been a little more taxing for you than others.

But now, restrictions are being lifted; you can meet up in groups and venture out to shops, restaurants and pubs. Again, while many feel it is too early to be doing this, this relaxation of quarantine will act as a saving grace for many who have felt trapped earlier this year.

Should you have been one of those people who was isolating in a couple, now what?
Do you resume ‘the new normal’ with your significant other or is it the actual end of the road?

If you’re not entirely sure what the current status of your relationship or marriage is, it might be worth looking into face-to-face coaching sessions. With appropriate social distancing measures, these can take place and it might do you and your relationship more good if any virtual coaching sessions hadn’t done the trick or were not possible at all.

Try going out with friends or even for walks on your own; time apart from your partner might help alleviate any tension there is between you. Even happy couples will have found some part of the last four to six months stressful. It’s important that, now that you can, you give each other the space you’ve most likely been craving. It’s not a sure way to solve your problems but it might help if too much time together caused the friction.

Unfortunately small spells of time apart or coaching won’t work for everyone. Every couple is different, as are their problems. If your plans were to divorce and things got postponed because of lockdown, offices are reopening and it will be easier to sort out the logistics of this option now. However, if it was just separation was on the cards before lockdown, it is easier to take a slightly more permanent time apart and give yourselves some space before you make your final decision.

Perhaps lockdown brought you closer together? Maybe it reminded you of why you became close and started a relationship. Sure, things might not be perfect but what if quarantine and isolating together made you realise your relationship was worth another shot?

Whatever your decision, whatever lockdown showed you; it is easier to deal with your current situation with more options.
